A Lack of Colour

This weekend was quite enjoyable. But instead of telling you about it in chronological order, I'm going to tell you about the best part-which happened yesterday, and then proceed to tell you what else happened in order of greatness, and finish with what I did last week-which explains the picture you see to the right.

Yesterday I had a photoshoot with a lovely young woman named Amanda. Last week my Basic Photo professor, Mike Smith, told us he wanted us to shoot a roll of portraits. I shot Amanda a few months ago for a collage project she was making for her anniversary with her boyfriend at the time-creative, indeed. Afterwards she said I should call her up any time I needed a model for whatever shoot I might need or want to do-so Friday I decided to take her up on her offer. All weekend I was at a loss as to where I should shoot. The only stipulations Mike gave us was no guys with cars, and no girls with trees. For a while I was thinking I'd do it at the covered bridge park, but at the last minute I decided to do it at my grandparents' pool. It's on the top of a hill where we wont be bothered, but at the same time it's an interesting setting. I wont be developing the negatives until Thursday (and hopefully make a couple prints the following Tuesday), but I have a feeling these pictures are going to turn out really well, so I'm already excited.

Friday night a friend from high school, Darius, had a get together in a remote location where young adults could have a good time without being bothered (or without them bothering anyone else). I caught a ride with some old friends, Dixie and Dusty, and we rode up there, saw some old faces, met some new ones, and generally had a good time. I believe it had been a long day for all 3 of us so we didn't stay long.

Saturday was a toiling day of mowing but afterwards me and my dad washed our cars-which was the highlight. I meticulously cleaned all the nooks and crannies since last time I had left several white spots from where I waxed. I had forgotten how shiny my Altima can be, and it made me realize I should have done it sooner considering it hasn't rained around here in nearly 3 weeks.

Last week was a rewarding one. In Basic Photo we finally got into making prints from the negatives we were instructed to shoot the previous week and then developed. I shot about half my roll at mainly inanimate object. Interesting in their own right, but I decided I wanted to include a human face in a few exposures. So I called up my friend, Laura, and requested her modeling services. I shot a few of her but she wanted a few with the both of us in them. So what you see above is near the end of the shoot.

There have been a few stories in the political world that have been irking me and I think I might write about them some time this week. Two names to remember: Ahmadinejad and Mugabe.

Tactical Precision

Saturday night Josh came over for dinner. We had BBQ spare ribs with sliced baked potatoes and macaroni. Tasty stuff. Anyways, after dinner we both, of course, had food in our teeth that needed removing, so we busted out some toothpicks. So there we were, just sitting there picking our teeth, chatting it up, and there's this fly that's been bugging us all dinner and finally lands on a napkin between me and Josh. Josh takes his toothpick, points it toward the fly and starts slowly moving towards it from directly above and I believe he says something to the effect of "wouldn't it be awesome?" to which I reply "dude, you might be able to do it, a fly's only blind spot is directly above it"and just as I finish that sentence-BOOM! Josh completely impales the fly with his toothpick and at the same time we're just like "OHHHHHH!!!" It was epic. Probably the most awesome thing that has happened all month.

So yeah, yesterday was also the first day of Autumn. I'm kinda welcoming it for the change but at the same time I'm going to miss Summer. I much prefer warm weather to cold, but I think I look better in winter clothes than jeans and a T. For some reason I equate fall with bratwurst and beer, and that's a plus. I'm hoping the drought won't cause too many premature brown leaves this year; fall colors always make for good photographing.

Tuesday I make prints in Basic Photo. I'm so very excited. I developed my first negatives last Tuesday and the wait for darkroom time again is making me agitated. I'm definitely going to try and scan them and get them up here as soon as possible.

Ok, that's enough procrastinating for now. I'm going to get off here, finish up some homework and get to bed.

The Alpha

In the beginning.

I've been away from blogging for a while-and by "for a while" I mean most of this year. Since March to be specific. I've honestly missed it. I was thinking there for a while that I wanted to start the foolish task of reviving xanga. I thought about it for a while and realized it was sure to fail. I also realized that blogger allows visitors to give comments instead of just those with an account. So here I am.

My display name has a double meaning.
I enjoy astronomy, and if I'm not mistaken, Sirius is the brightest star in the night sky (and no, it has nothing to do with the satellite radio service). Also, the Internet is serious business and that's what I deal in. Hart is self explanatory-my last name.

If you've never met me before, my name is David, I'm 22 years old, and I'm an undergrad ETSU. My major is Art with a concentration in photography. I've been published once, done a couple weddings, but I'm more or less taking a break from commercial photography until I've honed my craft. Every job I've done I've done well, but at the same time I feel like I'm not giving people their money's worth since I'm so unexperienced.

For anything else about me, refer to my profile. If that's not enough, then talk to me.
